Rafael Reyes Herrera is the youngest of four children of migrant farm workers. Of Aztec/Mexica heritage & raised in Somerton, AZ, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Cultural Geography, as well as his Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction at Arizona State University. He's been working in Phoenix public schools for 18 years. He also serves as his school's wrestling coach & co-advisor to the student organization MEChA. Rafael also is a member of Tonatierra, an indigenous urban organization for self determination, which in turn houses the Nahuacalli, Embassy of Indigenous Peoples & recognized at the United Nations. Within this framework, he is a member of the Nahuacalli Educators Alliance, & has presented numerous workshops re: history & culture. Additionally, he has been an Aztec dancer for over 20 years. He is married to Gina, & they have a son (Olinmazatemictli) & a daughter (Mayanelli).
